MOR Party Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun took consecutive locomotive rides to inspect track conditions and operation safety on Beijing-Zhengzhou Section of Jingguang Line, Zhengzhou-Lanzhou Section of Longhai Line, Lanqing Line and QTR Line from September 16th to 20th. China Railway Society held its first annual session in Beijing on September 7th. The meeting called on the railway sci-tech personnel to keep strengthening knowledge build-up, enhance innovation capabilities, expand service scope and continue to contribute to railway technological progress and the building of a harmonious railway. Prize was awarded to the authors of Excellent Scientific Paper 2006 at the meeting.
The 8th China International Modern Railway Equipment & Technology Seminar (or Modern Railways 2007) was held in Beijing from September 7th to 8th. Experts and scholars from home and abroad gathered to showcase their up-to-date management expertise, technology and equipment, and ontribute to the international railway exchanges and cooperation.
Modern Railways 2007 drew a successful end in Beijing on September 9th. The 4-day exhibition has presented a new image of Chinese Railways marching fast to modernization as well as many cutting-edge railway technological achievements. The number of railway-interested visitors increased dramatically, as around 36,000 people participated the event, doubling that of the last one.
Trains are running much faster, thanks to CR’s six rounds speed increase, however, the number of crossing and trespasser accidents has dropped substantially, according to CR’s safety management meeting on crossing and trespasser accidents which ended on September 9th. As statistics shows, CR’s crossing and trespasser accidents dropped significantly in both accident category number and fatalities in the January-July period of this year, compared with the corresponding period of 2005, which has met MOR Party Group’s target in a preliminary sense.
At CR’s televised transportation meeting held on September 11th, MOR gave credit to the passenger and freight transportation in the first 10 days of September and urged all railway administrations to make full use of the current favorable opportunity (marked by abundant cargo volume, favorable operational conditions and capacity restoration due to the stop of preliminary passenger train service) to improve transportation efficiency and cargo handling performance so as to boost the freight business.
CR rolled out its transportation plan for the upcoming Golden Week of National Day Holiday on September 14th, which will start on September 28th and end October 7th, according to MOR. It’s estimated that CR will carry 45.5 million passengers during this period and the peak day will fall on October 1st with 5.4 million passengers on the way.
MOR has urged all railway administrations to strengthen passenger transportation, enhance service quality, especially that of the preliminary passenger trains, and work out and improve emergency response plans so as to brace up for the National Day Golden Week.
MOR convened a televised meeting on construction safety in the afternoon of September 14th. Aiming to implement the State Council’s requirement stipulated in Circular on Enhancing Safety Management and Curb Severe Accidents, the meeting analyzed the protruding problems at present, called on all railway units to carry on in-depth safety examination and overhaul, reverse the unfavorable situation into favorable as soon as possible and manage to realize sustained safety in a concrete way.
According to sources from the National Railway Science and Technology Conference, MOR has listed technological development in energy conservation and environment protection as a key area in its recently rolled-out Eleventh FYP for Railway Sci-Tech Development. CR will make tremendous efforts to conduct application research and promotion of recourse conservation and comprehensive utilization technology as well as environmental protection technology, and improve railway’s energy conservation performance in a scientific manner.
Great momentum is accumulating in implementing the gist of the recent National Railway Science and Technology Conference. Inspired by CR’s outstanding achievements in sci-tech development since 16th CPC National Congress and confident in the overall goal and target set by MOR Party Group for the 11th FYP period, the railway staff has expressed to continue to contribute to railway sci-tech development with real actions and strive for railway innovation and the building of a harmonious railway.
The last cotton pickers train set out for Xinjiang on September 16th, marking CR’s completion of transportation of cotton-pickers into Xinjiang, according to MOR. Since August 15th when the transportation campaign kicked off, CR has carried 664,000 farmers, an increase of 139,000 or 26.5% year-on-year.
Despite the heavy construction engagements, railway departments are strengthening traffic organization and control to improve transportation efficiency. Cargo loading has exceeded 142,000 wagons for 3 consecutive days with the daily number of loaded wagons up to 142,407, thus reaching a historical new high, according to MOR.
Thanks to Taiyuan Railway Administration’s unyielding efforts to optimize transportation organization, tap potential based on the internal resources and conduct self-reliant innovation, Daqin Line’s single day traffic volume reached a historical new high of 891,000 tons on September 11th, brushing its previous record of 887,700 tons set on September 1st.
