At the CPPCC Auditorium on July 31st, MOR Party Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun briefed the CPPCC members, who are leaving to inspect the QTR line, on the QTR construction and railway work since the 16th CPC National Congress. Vice Chairman of 10th CPPCC National Committee & Executive Vice-Chairman of China Democratic League, Central Committee Zhang Meiying sang high praise for railway’s contribution to the people’s easy travel and the fast and sound development of the national economy as a mass transport means.
At MOR’s emergency televised meeting on flood prevention held on July 25th, Vice Minister Hu Yadong reviewed the latest campaigns of flood prevention and control, passed on the national flood & draught control and relief headquarters’ meeting gist out of its 2nd emergency session on July 24th and made deployment on CR’s precautions against Typhoon Kaemi-the fifth of this year. The meeting urged the whole sector to fully understand the grim situation of flood prevention, be on full alert, make preparations for major flood control, calamity fighting and danger relief, and pay special attention to the Typhoon Kaemi so as to ensure that few occurrence of track break and no train turnover in the event of track break and absolute safety for passenger trains.
While attending the thanks-giving meeting on behalf of MOR in the morning of July 28th, MOR Party Under-Secretary & Vice Minister Sun Yongfu presented commemorative plate for QTR construction to the member agencies of QTR Construction Leaders Team and relevant local governments to show gratitude for their full support and close collaboration with railways in the QTR construction.
MOR convened a sector-wide televised meeting on July 27th to implement the CPC Central Committee and the State Council’s Transferred Circular on the Fifth Five-Year-Program on Launching Law Promotion and Education Campaign among the Citizens, the NPC Standing Committee’s resolutions and the 6th national meeting on law promotion and education. While summarizing CR’s law promotion during the 4th FYP, the meeting rewarded the advanced units and individuals, and made deployment on the fifth FYP. The meeting called for a deepening of CR’s law promotion and education campaigns with the orientation of the central theme and whole picture.
Typhoon Kaemi, the fifth of this year, made its landfall in the coastal area of Weitou County of Jinjiang, Fujian at 15:50 on July 25th, with a maximum wind force at 12th degree near the center. Kaemi hit the coastal area of middle and southern Fujian with strong wind and heavy storms. Thanks to CR’s adequate precautions, the typhoon didn’t cause much problem to railway and all passenger trains were on time.
Always placing military transporta?鄄tion on the top of the agenda and focusing on transport safety for the past year, the PLA’s railway-stationed transportation departments and CR staff have accomplished all the urgent, challenging, dangerous and heavy transportation tasks, thanks to their close collaboration, compact organization and special-attention-to-special-case philosophy.
Although the summer passenger volume has moderated as most college students are already back home, the tourism passenger traffic remains robust with tickets to the scenic spots very hot, according to MOR. The railway departments have added preliminary passenger trains and attached extra coaches to better accommodate the increasing tourists and ease the passengers on the hot routes.
Food supply at stations and onboard trains is severely challenged with the lasting heat and widespread flood. MOR urged the whole sector to go all out secure food supply safety so as to guard against food poisoning and safeguard the passengers’ life and health.
According to MOR, full swing is gained with CR’s passenger ticketing system upgrade from version 4.0 to 5.0 across the railway administrations. The upgrade is scheduled to be completed by the end of this August. The new railway ticket will have the following three distinct features: added Chinese pinyin under the station name; the train number appearing above the arrow in stead of after the destination; and the “full price” being replaced by the RMB symbol “¥”.
Since late July, Shanghai Railway Administration has strengthened safety inspection on night train operation with its section of Beijing-Shanghai Line. The Administration announced 32 spotted problems and worked out correction solutions with specific responsible person and time frame.
Success is registered with the project of loaded track connection at Houying Station, a component of Daqin Line’s Capacity Upgrade Project. Thus, the Houying Station is completed and put into operation, adding another 20,000-ton train receiving station to Daqin Line. This also means that the coal handling capacity of the coal link has been further enhanced and way paved for realizing the year target of 250 million tons.

With a safe, quality and efficient service system, the Company has established a good platform of CR serving the major enterprises from both home and abroad, thus contributing to the fast development of the national economy.
The application for China’s Credible Enterprise for 2006 has begun. China Railway Enterprise Management Association calls on the railway units to well manage the recommendation and application with an enhanced awareness of cultivating socialist concept for honor and shame.
Shanghai Railway Public Security History Museum, CR’s first of its kind, was established at Shanghai Railway Public Security School in Jiaxing City. A grand inauguration ceremony was held by Shanghai Railway Administration in the morning of July 23rd.
