    On  August  16th, the central team of  MOR Party Group learned and  conducted  earnest  discussions on  the  CPC  Central Committee’s Decision on Studying Selected Works of Jiang Zemin  and  General  Secretary Hu Jintao’s important speech delivered at  the  report meeting of studying Selected Works of Jiang Zemin. While presiding over the learning session, MOR Party Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun stressed to well understand and study General Secretary Hu Jintao’s important speech, scrutinize Selected Works of Jiang Zemin according to the CCCPC’s call and grasp the real essence of the works so as to guide railway work with scientific theory.

    Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee  of  the 10th NPC Raidi inspected Lhasa Railway Station on August 13th, conveying greetings to the railway staff. In his speech, Raidi urged the local governments of Qinghai and Tibet as well as QTR Company to take further measures so as to ensure safety and smoothness of the QTR Line.

    Playing  the  main  role  of  coal transportation  corridor, CR has strengthened organization to safeguard power  coal transportation since the beginning  of  this  summer. As of August  14th, the coal stock at the 368 railway-fed power plants reached 29.38  million  tons,  translating into 17  days  as per 1.72 million tons consumed  per  day. The coal stock and consumption days represent a good increase compared with last year.

    Mr. Xu Guangchun, Secretary of CPC  Henan  Provincial Committee, delivered high praise to Zhengzhou Railway  Administration  for its full support to Henan’s  socio-economic development.

    In  parallel  with  a  delivery ceremony, a  working  seminar was held on jointly building Qiongzhou Strait Train  Ferry into a safe, smooth and favorable  route. Yuehai Railway Co. Ltd,  Zhanjiang Maritime Safety Administration and Haikou Maritime Safety Administration vowed to realize this model route by the end of this year.

    Aiming to enhance locomotive quality and  decrease  locomotive  failure, CR’s locomotive departments held a  televised  meeting  to  call  on  the  staff  to  go  all  out  to decrease locomotive breakdown  and traction power supply failure so as to contribute to the locomotive  equipment  modernization.

    At a recent meeting on freight wagon  application,  MOR urged all relevant departments to be adapted to the transportation management reform and the  productivity layout adjustment, improve management regime, optimize operation layout and technical standards, and realize a new safety protection mode of “Man-Machine Interfacing” step by step. All staff is supposed to carry on the QTR spirit of “challenging extremes & creating first-class”, cultivate a favorable atmosphere of “love career and achieve excellence” and take on a new look so as to gain new momentum for CR’s freight wagon application.

    Taking the lead in carrying out MOR Party Group’s “three intolerance” commitment, the cadres of MOR-affiliated units make donations enthusiastically. As of August 15th, the donated money totaled 654,246 yuan, among which 185,510  yuan  is  from  MOR  headquarters. Thus, the mix of the “three  intolerance”  fund has been further rationalized and the individual contribution has accounted for 1/4 of the total.

    A  meeting on cooperation and development of the new Euro-Asia continental bridge was held in Urumqi. Officials and experts came from NDRC, MOR, MOC and cities along the route like Lianyungang, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Lanzhou and etc. Experts proposed to develop express logistics corridors based on LongHai  Railway  and LanXin Railway.

    At  CR’s televised meeting on passenger coach safety held on August 21st, MOR urged railway administrations to enhance management, strictly observe regulations on coach application and maintenance, improve coach quality and eradicate equipment breakdown so as to ensure operation safety.

    We appreciate railway’s efforts in operating  the  Xinjiang-bound rural labor train  despite  its  capacity  constraint, said Chongqing Municipal Secretary  Wang Yang and Mayor Wang  Hongju  to  Chengdu Railway Administration management when seeing off over 1800 rural laborers traveling by Train  L204  from Chongqing  to Urumqi on August 18th.

    CR’s passenger volume reached this summer’s record high of 4.017 million on August 20th, as most college students were returning to school.

    According to estimate, Lanzhou Railway Administration will forward 270,000 Xinjiang-bound rural laborers, up 70,000 compared with 2005, and their departure time is mostly between late  August  and  mid  September. The  Administration  plans to operate 78  temporary  passenger  trains  to accommodate the traffic flow.

    MOR, joined by UN Population Fund and China Red Cross Society, launches an AIDS control propaganda campaign  at  railway  stations  and onboard trains, in a bid to implement the State Council’s Regulations on AIDS Control as well as MOR’s Action Plan  on Railways’ Prevention and Control of AIDS.

   China  Railway  Youth League Committee issued an initiative to call on  railway youth league members to actively  take  part  in the campaign of “carry on the three intolerance commitment  &  present  love to the financially difficult staff”, keep on with the  youth  volunteer activities and contribute love through real actions.

    China’s  first 165-ton bridge erector designed for 200km/h passenger & freight  railways  succeeded  at  one  go  in  a  simulated bridge erection. Developed by  uhan ZhongTie Engineering  Machinery  Plant, the technical solution of this new bridge erector passed  MOR’s  review  on August 16th.
